HITT-CIS at ASN-Conference in Moscow

On 1st of October 2011 the HITT-CIS Project organized a panel at the ASN-Conference “Twenty Years after 1991: The Reshaping of Space and Identity” in Moscow. The panel with the title “The Way of Life and the Standard of Living in Post-Socialist Countries: Public Health” contained papers from Gulzhan Alimbekova, Kirill Danishevskii, Larissa Filinskaya, Alexander Kizilov and David Rotman.

HITT-CIS on “Radio Svoboda”

On the 2nd of October “Radio Svoboda” reported about findings of the HITT-CIS Project. Veronika Bode (Radio Svoboda) interviewed the Project Coordinator Dr. Alexander Chvorostov and the HITT-CIS experts Dr. Alexander Gasparishvili, Dr. Gulzhan Alimbekova, Dr. Alexander Kizilov and Prof. David Rotman.

New HITT-CIS publication on Health Care Reform in the Former Soviet Union

HITT-CIS at Conference on Caucasus and Central Asia

In August 2011 Gulzhan Alimbekova and Aizhan Shabdenova (CIOM) presented findings from the HITT-CIS project at the conference “The Caucasus and Central Asia, twenty years after independences: Questioning the notion of South countries” in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Dr. Gulzhan Alimbekova (CIOM) presented findings of the HITT-CIS project at the 4th annual international conference “Independence of the state and capital of the country: connotation of meanings”. The conference took place on 4th and 5th of July 2011 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

On the 10th of July “Radio Svoboda” broadcasted a report about findings of the HITT-CIS project. The report covered trends of population health and health systems in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Southern Caucasus. “Radio Svoboda” interviewed the HITT-CIS experts Prof. Sergey Tumanov, Dr. Alexander Kizilov, Prof. David Rotman and Dr. Merab Pachulia.

HITT-CIS Presentation at Headquarters of CIS in Minsk

The HITT-CIS consortium made a first official Presentation of the results of a large-scale comparative survey, conducted in 2010 -2011 in nine post-soviet countries. The Presentation took place on May 30th 2011 at the headquarters of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Secretariat in Minsk, Belarus. The Presentation participants were welcomed by the First Vice-Secretary of the CIS Executive Committee Vladimir Garkun and by the head of the Analytical Department of the CIS Executive committee Igor Zelenkevich. After that HITT consortium representatives delivered their reports.

Project Principal Investigator Prof. Christian Haerpfer started with an introduction of the HITT-CIS research program, partner teams, missions and key aims of the project for the audiences of stakeholders and journalists. He was followed by Dr. Bayard Roberts from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who delivered first comparative conclusions with regard to health related behaviours and health services in the studied countries. After that the dissemination activities of the European Observatory on health systems and policies were presented by Dr. Marina Karanikolos. Important project results related to population health and healthcare issues were reported by the senior investigators of the project partnering teams: Ashraf Hadjiyev (Azerbaijan), Larissa Filinskaya (Belarus), Merab Pachulia (Georgia), Gulzhan Alimbekova (Kazakhstan), Vladimir Prohoda (Russia), Ksenia Kizilova (Ukraine).

The HITT-CIS presentation was widely reported in the Belarusian mass media. The First National TV Channel and the Second National TV Channel ONT broadcasted news reports about the HITT-CIS presentation. Information about the consortium presentation was published by the Belarusian newspapers «Zvyazda», «Belorusskaya Niva» and «Narodnaya Gazeta».

HITT-CIS publications available online

Several HITT-CIS papers have been published in the book “Methodology, theory and practice of sociological analysis of contemporary society: Collection of papers”, which was edited by the V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University (Ukraine). The articles have now been made available on the website of the National Library of Ukraine. A list of the HITT-CIS contributions with direct links to the respective papers can be found here.
